Early Music: Concept and History of a Practice

Abstract

This article aims to provide an overview of the practice of so-called “Early Music” from its origins in some European countries, its expansion into America, the different approaches to its meaning as an artistic practice, a vision of the music history during modernity and postmodernity, and an approach to the debates generated by its practice as a “subculture” within the field of academic music.
